this is a tough one... i had this problem when we were having a new heating systme installed.... depends on how much of a risk you are willing to take...
A) if tank is small enough... move it to another location (friend/family house etc..)
B) Wrap tank in blankets (thermal blankets work well)
C) use a carosine (sp?) heater next to the tank to heat up the area around it
D) tell the heater company to invent heaters powered by batteries jk... and or tell the electric company to SHOVE IT and that they will be responsible for any damages done.
if the tank is big enough you might be ok... the smaller the tank, of course... the shorter amount of time you have...

wrap your tank in blankets to maintain heat and if you can get a battery operated airator. if your going to be there you can manually stir the aquarium for oxygen exchange and some flow. or rent a generator for the day.

Go buy a UPS (made for computers; usually ~$100) and use it to run a 8.5 watt Maxijet 900 and wrap the tank in a blanket if there is a large difference between the tank temperature and ambient temperature.
If that isn't an option, buy a 100+ foot extension cord and beg your neighbor to let you plug it in and run your tank on your neighbor's juice for however long you need.

I lost power for 2 days in a hurricane and lost no fish. I just but a battery powered areator in the tank... it was plenty hot!! heat was no problem!

4hourd you should really be fine.. Think about when they ship items they are in a small amount of water and without anything for a much longer period of time. If your tank is of any size I doubt you will see much change in temp at all.

I don't see a problem with just doing basics. My greater concern depends on what part of the country you are in...will it get real hot, or cool off?
4 hours is nothing. I would go out and get a battery operated airstone which is important to have on hand in general. Will cost under $10. You can run it for 10 minutes or so maybe twice an hour, and you will be fine, IMO.

depends on the temp in the house , all i did when this happened to me is turning on my battery operated air pump and kept the house at 78 degreese . 4 hrs isnt that bad i wouldnt worry unless it was 24 hrs

It shouldn't be a problem, but for peace of mind you can pick up a battery operated air pump for cheap at any LFS. My power strip crapped out on me once and I went without power for like 6 hours. It should be fine.
