my elegance hasnt opened in about three days and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what i could do to help it out. i just set up about 20 gallons of water to do a really big change tomorrow morning, hopefully that will help out some.
flow, lighting suggestions?
i have 150w mh and two maxijet 900 phs.
the coral is at the bottom of the tank in the sand bed directly under the light (about 2-2.5 feet between light and coral).

what size tank?? I have had an elegance... but no success..they are one of the more difficult corals to care for IMO... but... i would not put it in the sand... many people say put it in the sadn... this can allow sand to enter the coral and irritate it... which might be the reason why it closed... for the short time i had mine... i put it in the middle of the tank in the rockwork/ on a ledge... just be sure so allow the flesh part to hang over.... because the rough texture of the live rock can actually cause tissue damage to the corals

ive actually heard that if you bury/pour it with some sand, it will dig itself out and open up. look into this idea a little bit more, im not 100% sure on it, but i think its a good lead.
and elegance corals need to be in sand, not on live rock.

dont put the elegance in direct light move it to the side of the tank where there is not as much light.

I think soft sand or even more like a muddy bottom is what they like. I believe the total light brightest all depends on the collection depth.. Many these days are collected from deeper waters. But how does one know the collection depth?????? Elegance likes weekly feedings with meaty foods too when tentacles are fully extended............
Also has yours been rubbing against live rock?? Avoid that!!!! They tend to develop infections from the abrasion. Avoid that at all cost.... Last how long have you had him and who big is he??. Here is mine taken last year. Warren

I have 2-250 watt HQI and 2 96 watt CF and lots of flow but not directley on the coral and my elagance is on the bottom of my 55 gallon, it loves it. It seems to like the CF more then the HQI. What are your calcium and alk levels at. And what do you feed it. Is there anything picking at it or irretating the tenicles.
