there's a lot of speculation on this..these corals come from high nutrient lagoons, we're trying to keep low nutrient systems. Some think its the way their collected. I really can't tell ya. I'd give up as many sps as it would take to keep one, their probably my favorite coral.

I dont know why they even sell em. Rarely if ever do they live for any length of time in captivity. Just hearing about one reminds me of when I first got into the hobbie and read that they were easy to keep, so I went down and bought one, and then another, and then another, I was so bummed. When I finally learned that they rarely live, I asked the guy at the lfs how long he wanted to live. He he said "awhile" and gave me my money back.

I read and asked successful owners and they keep them low light, flat on the sandbed and low flow. They like high nutrient muddylike surroundings to be happy. Definately put it flat on the sandbed with bottom in a dugout area of the sandbed. They also send stingers so keep stuff away from it. I was going to get one, but I always try to read and learn everything I can about something first and someone else got it first  But now I know, should I ever see a good one for sale. I just got one today. Its on the bottom of my 125g stuck in the sandbed. Looks happy right now. I'm going to spot feed it krill, brine shrimp and cyclop-eeze. I also add phytoplex a couple times a week. I'll let you know how it goes.

I had one that did really well for about 2 years. He was under a lower random flow, placed low in a mature tank under VHOs. When I upgraded to MHs it couldn't take the bright lights... I acclimated it slow but not slow enough I guess.
They have reached the "Do not buy" list for me too because of everything I've read. I really think I got lucky and got a healthy one.

Another site says this:
Green Elegance Coral
Green Elegance Coral, also know as Elegant Coral or Ridge Coral, is a coral of medium hardiness. Elegance Coral, Catalaphyllia jardinei, likes low to moderate water flow and a low placement in the aquarium. To truly understand from whence its name is derived, actinic lighting should be employed. The actinic fluorescence causes the tips of the tentacles to glow in various shades of blue, green, orange, and purple. Elegance Coral will, on a daily basis, encroach upon and harm other corals as it expands under light and retracts at night. It will definitely benefit from occasional target feedings of plankton or brine shrimp. Elegance Corals are some of the hardiest Large-Polyp Stony Corals, so they are good corals for beginners.
Which is why I bought it!  I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens. My tank has been up and running since Oct. so I think its established enough but probably not dirty enough! I also have 3 250 hqi de mh and 2 140w actinic vho's. Its in the sand bed, low-medium water flow.
