I have not kept one, but I have kept the gonipora flower pot, 2 of them, which equal the care of the elegance coral. Both did wonderful in my reef tank.
Can you give me you tank info?

100gal

100lbs LR - My 90 gallon had 135lbs LR
80 lbs of LS- My 90 had a 4 inch LS bed ~200 lbs LS
Reefstar 400w with 14k HQI.
I have a outer orbit 150 watt PowerPaq 10000°K HQI double ended bulbs and Dual 460nm/420nm Actinic square pin compact fluorescent bulbs, and lunar lights. 560 watts total
Flow is about 20x I use a ehiem pro 2, 2 aquaclear 110 power filters, and a Wave2K for my 90 reef tank.
Water movement for goniporas is extremely important. Check out the areas that these corals come from. The water movement there is high. The movement in my 90 looked like a wheat field on a very windy day.
What plans do you have for your tank?

Mainly just softies, a maxima blue clam, and a carpet anemone . I don't know If I am going to get into SPS anytime soon. I like to take my time with these things. Make sure I can keep the Softies, the clam, and the anemone alive for a while first before I venture into the SPS world.

Sounds great
The only occupant I'd be careful with is the carpet anemone. Anemones are beautiful, but are brats when it comes to sharing tank space. I had 2 bubble tip anemones that declared chemical war...slime flowed from each anemone for almost a week. Both died and took a few zoos with them.
The goniporas were the main stars of my 90, and everything that went into the tank had to revolve around the needs of the gonipora.
Sounds like you're off to a great start
Got any pics of your tank?

I need to take some pictures. Girlfriend is out of town with the camera right now. I really only want the Carpet for my 2 pur clowns.

Elegance corals were once relatively easy to keep, but have been plagued with disease in recent years. Eric Borneman has researched this so you may wish to do a google search on this.

Really....
Thats no good. I saw one the other day at my LFS, and it looked really bad. They we still trying to sell it for $90. I guess I better do some more reading..

I recently read an article suggesting that the reason of the elegance coral problem was due to the depth at which they where collected. The article suggested that elegance corals collected in Jakarta years ago where taken from shallow lagoons and have much thicker tissue to protect from the sun. After years of overcollecting these 'shallow' water elegances become scare, and collecters started taking elegance from much deeper water that had thinner tissue and where more prone to damage. The author of the article even claimed he saw an ornamental shrimp walk across one of these corals and punctured several small holes in it.

Well.....
Yesterday I was pretty sure I wanted one, but after reading about the current problems I now think I am going to pass. Probably get some Frogspawn. Those seem to be pretty popular, and a lot of the pictures I have seen show them doing very well...

Your best bet for an elegance is to buy one from a fellow reefer than has been kept in captivity a while already, other than that I wouldn't get one. Frogspawns are very hardy and easy to keep I highly recommend one of these.
