Emerald Crab, funny story

Maybe there won't be another person amused but I had to tell the story. I already have a female emerald inhabiting my tank, so last night I wanted to add a companion for her. I purchased another emerald, and upon further inspection I realized it was a male. I put in the tank at about 8:30pm, and spent the next hour looking for my female. She was nowhere to be found. It was time to turn out the lights, and about a minute afterwards, who appears? The female, making a bee line for the male. She scurried up the rock only to lock into an eight furry legged embrace for about 5 mins. I don't think they were hugging, dancing, or fighting, there was something more. My girlfriend and I, tried to get it on camera but it was to late. Plus I would have felt like a Mithrax sculptus version of larry flynt. Either I could get very lucky and have more emeralds soon, or I will get free fish food. Or they weren't doing what I thought they were, and my mind is in the gutter.

how do you tell if they are male or female?

If you go to the archives Beth has written about emerald crabs. The female has a plate on the abdomen the resembles a dome, and the male has an obelisk plate on his abdomen. The archived thread is quite interesting.

Funny thing is they finished, and she chased him around for about 30 mins, guy just wanted to get cozy on a rock, butter up some micro algae and watch the tube. Just like a woman.

I think they will reproduce in the tank , but I don't think the eggs will make it. Not unless I get them out and go through a hatching stage properly. Which I don't have the resources for.

But maybe I can get lucky, I don't have any fish yet.

I just gat a picture of the male sitting back on the recliner, smoking a cigarette, and the female flapping her claws at him. I think you should name them Ralph and Alice like in the honeymooners old tv show.
