Emerald Crabs *-sniff-*

Ive had the first death in my nano-reef aquarium in a LOOOOOOONNNNNG time. My emerald crab died this morning/last night. He was HUGE! about 2 inches across when he was folded up. and 1 inch long arms, at least.
Could it have been the fact that he was just an old man when I got him last December? He immediatly went to work on the hair algae, and has since kept it sparkling clean. He also munches (munched- *sniff*)on my calurpa and formula one I drop in there. I dont think he starved for lack of hair algae. What do ya think? At that size, was he just old?

I think emerald crabs don't have a very long lifespan. After one of mine molted and got huge, he passed away a few months later for no apparent reason. I've read that each time an invert molts, there is a chance they won't survive the molting process. This chance goes up exponentially when the invert gets larger.
