Hello,
I just came home to find my filter tube leaking all onto my electric outlet and power strip. There were 3 inch sparks shooting out and loud buzzing sounds. I am so lucky I caught it when I did.
So I fixed the tube, but the question is:
Is there any type of power strip out in the market that will trip if it gets wet. Surge protector made for aquariums????
Please help, I have turned the power off to my tank.
Thanks

I have seen a surge protector specifically made for aquarium use. It was in one of my online catalogs.. no clue which one.. try googling a search for one.

There are several surge protectors made for use with aquariums. I believe Coralife makes one with built in timers as well. Some also incorporate the wavemaker feature also.
You might want to consider constructing some sort of housing for all your cords. I have two power strips in a tupperware. The wires run through the sides of the tupperware. Haven't had a problem yet, but also haven't had spillage.

thanks for the help. I was also told to get a GFI outlet which I obviously don't have.
thanks again

you have to get a gfi outlet. your house almost burned to the ground and you were fortunate enough to catch it. pay the couple of bucks and go with the gfi as soon as it detects leakage to ground it will shut off. I replaced a 6 gang outlet with all gfi cause I was using it for my fish.
