Emperor 400 as an HOB Refugium?

Well I have had the emperor 400 since I started my tank. I have a remora pro skimmer and 60-70 lbs of live rock. I kinda stopped using the emperor and it has recently just been sitting there. Well I had an idea that if I put lights over it, some LR rubble, and some Chaeto, wouldn't it be a perfect little refugium? Well I tried it. So far it has been about a week. I bought a hang on light with a 10 watt PC 50/50 bulb. It only lights one side but the other side seems to get alot of light from the tank lights themsleves. I guess my question is, has anyone ever tried this? and Do you think it will work at helping me reduce my nitrates? I have the flow reduced to the lowest setting. Here's a couple pictures. What do you guys think?

I use a HOB filter as a refugium on my 16 gallon tank. I think my chaeto actually prefers a higher flow. I only have a 5 watt light on it right now, I need to find something better.

i don't see why it wouldn't, its better than having no use for it. i have the same emperor(i just use it for water circulation and to occasionally run carbon.

Farrider, do you have any live sand or rubble in there as well? And do you have pods growing in there?
