Emperor 400 making lots of bubbles....

Does anyone know of a way to avoid all these bubbles in the tank with this filter? Is this normal? I've got LOTS of "tiny bubbles" in my tank and I'd rather have them in a glass of champaigne!!

sounds like you might be sucking air into the filter.check to make sure no air is going into the inlet tube on the filter.

is the main suction tube inserted correctly? Try re-seating it just fo kicks.
Do you have good flow over the bio wheels?

Also, did you add a stress coat additive to the water? This will make the water bubble until it breaks down. This can take as long as 10 days.

Well, let's see...the flow over the biowheels is fine, although I keep it kinda slow. Should I speed this up a bit? I think the inlet tube is the same thing as the suction tube you mentioned, right? If so, yah, the tube is in tight and it's way below the water line, so I don't think any air is getting in there. My water line fluctuates ( evaporation ) but I get lots of bubbles no matter where it's at...Hmmm...any other ideas?

Are they running loudly or are the for the most part quiet? If they are loud than its sucking up air from somewhere if its quiet than its not. I would bet the water in your tank is to low. The level should be up over the bottom of the "slide" below where the wheels are wher ethwater comes out. Also a few bubbles are normal and won't hurt anything.

Yah, it really does run loudly...it always has. I usually keep the water up over the slides but sometimes below...I'll check when I get home tonight for air intake anywhere. I don't know where the air would come in from, though...anyway thanks for all your suggestions. I really appreciate the help!

is it just loud like watery sound or is it a clicking type noise if your intake is pulled too far farther or pushed too far back the impeeler will hit agains the inside the tube and make a clicking noise

i have a 400 and it makes almost no noise. you might want to take out the suction tube and check for cracks. i had a hairline crack in mine and it did suck in air from there.

Hey, thanks for all the help here you guys! :D The noise is a very loud watery sound...no clicking or anything so it must be air getting in somehow, I'll check it for cracks when I get home tonight...I hope I can figure it out, it would be nice to have a quieter, calmer tank for a change!! ;)

I run 2 Emperor 400's and unless I look at the movement of the wheels, I would not know if they were running..VERY silent. I keep the water level about 1/2" above the run-off tray.

I hooked up one of my Emperor 400's today .... I notice they make noise if you don't have the biowheels on.
Question: For those of you with the Emperor's do you use the gray media slabs? I thought of putting them in, but am not sure if I should or not?

yep I use them all the time. Get yourself an extra set of them. You can order them for 4.99 from www.petsolutions.com When you get them fill one set up with filter floss or go to any fabric store and get poly fiber fill for very cheap (its the same thing)Put these 2 in the back and then fill the others up with carbon or whatever. If you do this you will never buy a cartridge again and it will costs less than $1.00 a month to run your filter. It also makes it very easy just to run mechanical filtration if you do not want to use carbon.
