I am thinking of getting an emperor 400 on my 20 gallon high tank, and I was also going to get maxi jet powerhead 600. Would this be enough flow for a reef tank?Or possibly too much haha. If its not enough should I get another maxi jet?

So are you saying I dont need the maxi jet?Or would I still need one for the flow on the aquarium for the coral.

The bio-wheel does not put out enough surface movement picture spitting really hard then back that down a bit and you have a bio-wheel 400. I have one I removed it last night it is a month and a half old wanna buy it ") I went with the fluval fx5 for a 75 gal also running a wet/dry using four different types of media. black diamond carbon, chemi pure elite, live rubble rock in two trays and bio-balls.
The emperor works fine but for a 75 it is not enough. I would suggest a koralia as opposed to a maxi jet but thats just me.

I had an Emperor 400 on my 10g which provided great flow but the 10g was a shallow tank. I had an Emperor on my 20g and it provided great surface flow, but I would suggest getting a powerhead to provide the water movement lower down in the aquarium.

How many times a week did you poke toothpicks into the water bar to have great flow ? I have to do mine at least twice a week and it still clogs.
The emperor is not really a swf filter sure it can be used as one but eventually you get enough bio-load on the wheel and it comes tumbling off and wham-0 your up a creek s#!^ creek literally. My buddy have one and it happened to him more than once up in Kansas city years ago lost everything that swam :)
Short run they work fine keep them super clean and they work fine let them go a month and ya just never know. In your small tank though it should be super so disregard everything I just said lol.

For your tank would great,but I would add a powerhead,I've got one on a 55 gal. w/2-900 maxi-jets.Does good for me,but I am going to upgrade to a sump/fuge.
