Emperor angel/sponge question

Just bought a large sponge to feed to my Emperor. So should I put the entire sponge in the FOWLR or leave it in my sump and cut pieces off of it? I'm just not sure if he would rip it all up and make a huge mess lol. Any advice?

he'll probably shred it to pieces if you give it all to him.
You're a nice owner for buying a sponge just to feed him! Is this just a treat? Do you know that there are some good Angel foods on the market that contain sponge?

Yea I know =) Was just as a treat for him! Wasnt sure if he would demolish it right off that bat or not

Put the sponge in..Angel ran behind a rock in horror! LOL well at least my tank will have some color until he realizes he can eat it.

I have my doubts the Emp will eat the sponge. None of my angels have touched sponge I've tried. You could try helping those odds, try and drop mysis/whatever foods the angel normally eats onto the sponge to try and get him to nip at it.
When we say 'sponge' we are talking about a pretty wild category. In the wild, most angels tend to eat smaller sponges, hitchhiker type sponges, and a lot of tunicates (sponge relatives). Tree sponges probably represent something the angel has never tried to eat before. Some do take to eating them though...

My CT does same thing as well. Except he does it to snails and crabs as well :/
Used to have a pretty good clean up crew but after he learned this feat.... down to couple of snails and crabs.

LOL. My Naso used to this to hermit crabs. He'd take them for a ride across the tank and drop them in the overflows, anemones, etc. Was fairly amusing to find where it would land. I wonder where they learn to do some of these things.
