12 hour period with stress coat just ended and he is now acclimating to the display tank. I'm planning on doing a 30G water change later today or tomorrow just to make sure water is clean. Could you expand on the poor tank conditions that cause this? Such as what is a good nitrate level for a FOWLR system or anything else? Thanks

Where angels and tangs are concerned, zero nitrate is the goal.
How do you have your tank set up, filters, etc.?

I have a 30G fuge and I also run a fluva canister filter. I use to have all the pads and filter elements in it but recently learned they can make nitrates rise so removed them and just use the canister with spraybar for water flow. I have 160Ibs+ of LR and a 5" DSB. I also have a HOB skimmer. I've kept a blue hippo in my tank now for about a year with no problems so I'm kinda at a loss with this emperor.

So far so good. He's still active and bullies right in with the rest for his share of the food. Coloring still looks the same however. I'm going to do another water change tomorrow to try to bring the nitrates lower if I can. I'll keep ya posted.

He's still with me but looks about the same. I'm feeding him everyday with zoecon. One day I will feed flake and algae sheet then the next day I will feed frozen formula 1&2 as well as homemade mix and algae sheet.

I had the same problem with my Imperator angel when I first got him also. He wouldn't eat for 2 weeks and his skin looked just like your angel. I put him in the display tank with a lot of places to hide. I always add vitamin and extreme garlic to his meals (he loves to be hand-fed). It took about a little more than a month for those patches on his skin to go away. After 3 months, I can see the colors started to change. Just give him some time, he's very shy but quite a trooper.
Below is a pic of my angel when I first got him. Will post the current one as soon as I upload it to my comp.

clownie27, thank you for your input and the picture. Can you post a current picture?
I have come to the same conclusion after doing a bit of research. I'm hoping that the fish being in the display now, and a healthy environment will turn things around. The fish has been effectively treated with antibiotics to address any latent infection issues.
Also, I would like to use the pictures in this thread for the Diseased Fish Thread if both of you don't mind. These pictures are very helpful to many others who share your problems, but who don't have digitals.

It's fine by me if you want to use the pics and thanks for the info clownie, it makes me feel better. I think the emperors slowly improving. It seems the spots in the middle are fading a bit. Hopefully I can soon post a pic of him all healthy and happy:jumping:

That's good to hear. I'm rooting for her! Good quality water and excellent food, no stress in environment should do the trick.

He's doin fine, spots have all cleared up. He still gets those growths on his fin though. They seem to grow for about 4 days then fall off only to repeat about a week later. Other than that he's happy and healthy:D

Wow, what a difference! He looks good. Do you think those "growths" are actually lymphocysitis? Why do you say they fall off?
toughguy, I want to use your pics for the Diseased Fish thread, if that is ok with you?

Yeah, I'd still bet that it's lymphocysitis. The reason I believe they could be falling off is due to the fact that when I no longer see the spot on the fin, I notice that where the spot was that part of the fin is missing. It's nothing major and not noticable unless you know to look for it, just a little part that the spot was on is gone. It never seems to get any bigger however, always grows to the same size, then falls off or disappears. And feel free to use the pics:D
