Empty 30 gallon tank

I have an extra empty 30 gallon tank with no idea what to do with it. I may be able to pick up some pretty cheap live rock this weekend, but I don't know which direction to take the tank in. I am new to SW and my other tank is a FOWLR. I was thinking of starting a mini reef tank.....any ideas on easy to care for corals?

First thing I'd suggest is to decide what sort of coral to house. You'll need to get lighting that can support what you choose to keep, then you can work on setting up the filtration and skimming, powerheads, etc. If you're going to keep soft coral only, or maybe soft and LPS, you'd want at least 90 watts of PC lighting or higher (T-5's or MH aren't necessary but you could certainly get those to have the best lighting). If you're going all LPS and maybe someday some SPS, go T-5 or MH, starting at around the same wattage.
As for easy to care for coral, soft and LPS are fairly easy. Mushrooms and zoanthids, as well as various other soft coral are good starters, and some LPS like frogspawn or torch coral can be easy as well.
Hope that helps! Best of luck, and I hope we'll see some pics when you get things going.

Okay, I knew I would have to change the lights, I think I will start off with some soft corals and mushrooms. I will search the site a little more to see which ones are good for beginners.
