Encrusting Gorgonian information

Can anyone please please provide me with some information on encrusting gorgonians? I purchased some and it hasn't opened yet. It's been a little over 24 hours...

They sometimes take a little longer to get comfortable. I wouldnt worry if your parameters are ok and you have a good water flow.

They need good water flow. Mine occasionally gets knocked over by an aggressive shrimp, and won't open until I redirect the flow over it.

I see that you're from new york, have you ever heard of fairmont aquarium in syracuse? That's where I bought the encrusing gorgonian.

Interesting, you'd think the agitation would prevent it from coming out...

Encrusting gorgonians are very similar to Green Star Polyps. They grow in a mat with polyps that come out. The main difference is that gorgonians form a flat leathery mat, whereas GSP forms a bumpy mat.
They are very easy to care for and grow extremely fast! I also found they are impossible to kill. I tried scraping them off rocks before with a knife, and somehow they still grew back. They will grow over mushrooms, xenia, and basically any other soft coral.
They can be touchy at times. I'd give them a week before being worried about the colony.

Please let me know if this looks healthy/correct or not? :notsure:

Oh and the reason it's up on the live rock is because the aquarium/store I got it from said thats where it should be put if I wanted it to spread on the back of my tank like they have in their display tank.
This stuff rocks, if it would juuuust open up.... It's been almost three days.

Ammonia: 0
Nitrates: 0
Phosphates: 0
PH: 8.2
(we tested the water about an hour ago)
500 Watt Actinics and Metal Halides? I dont know much about the lighting, it was over $1,000 and fits perfectly on my 72" 125 gallon tank.
My tank is about 5 months old.
I have increased the flow as recommended in the posts above. toward the gorgonian.
My tank is very very clear :) I have two sets of zoas, xenias and a pearl bubble coral.

Give it some time...it will open. If you see it start to disintegrate away, then you should worry.

sounds like a nice setup, water parameters look good....
yeah, just give it some time.
although it may not be use to such strong lighting as MH. what was it under before you got it?

I bought the encrusting gorgonian about three days ago. I didn't have any corals before I got the lights.

well what i meant was....if the lighting the coral was in before you got them were not as bright as yours it my take a while to adjust to the level of light. if i'm making since?
Doesn't matter, congrats on some progress.

It just needed to adjust to the light intensity, once it gets that done, its gonna flourish, might overtake your tank.
