enough LR?

i hav a 50 hex tank and i am curing about 20 pounds of LR and 20 punds of BR...
is this enough live rock and base rock to act as a filter?
(do i hav enough LR to not have to buy a seprate filter for my tank?)

Any LR is helpful, but I'd shoot for a total of 50 lbs. The recommended amount is about 1-1.5 lbs. You can go as low as you want, but I think that's look best and provides adequate filtration without crowding. Also, it's really not so much pounds but size and porousness. You could get 50 lbs. of totally dense rock and not have as much helpful life as would be find in a 10 lb. nice, holey piece.

It definitely can be mixed. If you are not going to run a filter though, and use your rock as your filter, I would shoot a little bit higher, to around 55 to 60 lbs.
