Environmentally Friendly and Imasculating

Sounds like a libs dream toilet...
http://blogs.chron.com/sciguy/archiv...nets_sake.html
This toilet separates urine and poo-poo at the source. The nutrients in urine can be then recycled for such purposes as fertilizer. And the other sewage can then be transported to waste treatment facilities where actually can be used to produce power rather than consume it.
The problem is that some people might not like the new toilet. For men it means sitting down, not standing. (On the upside, gone would be the long-standing gripe of women about the toilet seat being left up.) And apparently the toilets are more prone to blockages.
Nevertheless, scientists are reporting that Europeans seem amenable to the new toilets.
A new survey reported in Environmental & Science Technology (see research article) finds that, in seven northern and central European countries, 80 percent of users liked the idea, and 75 to 85 percent were satisfied with design, hygiene, smell, and seating comfort of No-Mix toilets.
I wonder whether the idea will sink or swim in America.
NOTE: I'm only joking around a little bit. Don't take it personally.

Replumb our entire country so we can separate fecal matter from urine. Sounds like a financially irresponsible thing to do. California will be the first to try it. Mark my words.

It sounds like you'd just have a urine tank somewhere...

My plumbing enters a solid chunk of concrete with one drain. I don't see how the urine and feces would remain separated unless a second drain was added to serve only one form of waste. Jackhammering my foundation to add a second drain pipe sounds expensive.

with all the illegal aliens out there you could just drive to the nearest home depot rent the jackhammer and pick one up while your there.
than try to figure out how to plumb your toilet out the wall (like in europe) instead of through the floor

I am stuck on the sitting and standing thing....You poo or pee... in any position it is the same???? So if a fellow wants to stand, as long as he hits the target

Reasonably sure any requirements would be applied to new construction only. Though that is giving a lot of credit to not so creditable people...
I see several "issues."
First, are all people really that similar? To me it seems a little tight on the #2 compartment.
Second, is it just me, or does the urine collector seem to intrude on space, like that part is really shallow? I'll leave it at this, I think I might have some "clearance issues" if I'm forced to sit down.
Third, I think for this to not gross people out, there should a 'quick clean' flush or something that could clean off the first compartment, just rinse it into the rear, just in case.
After this highly intellectual post, I feel like I should be drinking natty ice and getting ready to start a fire....

No?
When most guys only have to urinate, we do so standing up. When we go poo we sit down. The design of this toliet would not allow guys to urinate standing up, the urine would just go into the other compartment and not be collected.

I was just thinking the same thing -- although my current residence is the only place I've lived and not p'd outside (yet).
I did watch my drunk neighbor pee in his wife's flowerpot one night -- and the next day she was working in them lol

I"ve got a better solution, and it is relatively free...
We use a similiar method around here to see if you qualify for the volunteer fire department.

Since when is separating the two an issue? Been doing this for thousands of years and now it is an issue?
Also, do we really want to confuse the drunks even more on where they need to hurl?
While we are at it.what happens if the TP falls in the wrong section?
What is the GPF rating on this, I can see some over spillage.
I know some people that would fill up the compartment halfway through their business.
There is a reason men don't spend as much time in the public restroom as women, we don't have to sitdown.....Now you want me to sit everytime? Kiss my butt.,.......

so dumb.......way too many factors involved that won't let this work.
Has anyone potty trained a child?? That is a nightmare in itself.
That is the first thing that comes to mind.......then a flood of other bad things come to mind after that.
Did anyone see Dirty Jobs where Mike went to the plant that filters what comes through the toliets????

ewww...
