I agree, An aqua remora would be nice for that tank size. My above post would be if you didnt want a protein skimmer.

Coralife Super Skimmer is nice for that size as well. Theres a few options but those are probably your best options (that and the remora) for the price.

Are those HOB or like I could put those under my tank with my canister? I would really like to keep the clutter down and put it with the canister since this is where the family spends most of our time and where we usually are when company is over, I really just want it to be astecially(sp?) pleasing.

Update: still zeros across the board, no amonia, no nitrites, no nitrates, ph remains between 7.8 and 8.

Throw a cocktail shrimp in there. That will help the cycle start and you'll be surprised what else comes out of that LR you bought.
As far as the skimmer. I would use a HOB unless you plan on putting in a sump. I don't know of any skimmer that is a stand alone piece of equipment that you put below the tank without a sump. If there is one available on the market, someone please let me know. I'll be looking to buy a skimmer. I just picked up a 30 gal to start as my pony tank.

Shrimp is in the tank, how long roughly do you think before I start to see the amonia rise?

took mine 3 days for the ammonia to spike (at 1) then take it out. The Coralife is in sump and HOB. Most are

3 days huh? Well I guess nothings going in the tank till middle/end of next week then, hmmm. Just so Im thinking ahead, what should I be looking to put in there first, cuc wise.

I've probably asked this before but what is cuc?
After your ammonia drops you'll see your nitrite spike.... after that hits 0 and you do your first water change you can worry about what to put in there, a basic clean up crew first.

haha had to make that hard on me eh?
A few snails and maybe a cleaner shrimp... there are a few options, I put in peppermints because my LR was really established and it licks to pick at it :)
I have astrea and nassarius snails, they are a good combo because one stays on the LR and glass, the other in the sand bed and keeps churning it up.
Don't overdue it because they'll starve just start with a few and work from there.

Water seemed to clear up a great deal over the last day, its almost crystal, I actually think it looks clearer than my FW setup?

Good amount of stuff growing on the LR!

Dont know what this is but I thought someone could ID it for me, there are a couple similar to it on the other peice of LR.

Heres the other 2 things similar to the one above.

Lots of growing stuff! Including this grass like stuff all over the LR, guessing its some type of algae.

Day 2 of the shrimp in the tank and still reading zeros, temp 78*, ph ~8.
Comments and suggestions please!

If you dont want to use a HOB skimmer, then you'll need a sump which will go under your display tank. You could even use your 30g FW tank as a sump. melevsreef.com has a nice DIY section on sumps. Could give it a read just for kicks. Tank looks great so far!

Ill probobly end up going with the remora c, as I am not taking down my FW tank, way to much time and $ into it.

Just give it time. It takes a while to cycle. I would leave the shrimp in the tank till it dissolves. Your ammonia has to go pretty high before the Nitrite spikes and the faster the ammonia climbs the faster the cycle goes. No matter what don't rush it. Just be patient and your fish will love you for it.
Oh and it looks like you got yourself a few zoos with your live rock. Bonus!

I was thinking it might be a zoo in the first pic, in the second one I couldn't tell. You may want to get a few really good pics and post it as an ID thread. A few of the experts could probably name it.
