Equipment of the week?

I'd like to suggest a similar thread to the coral of the week.
It could feature calcium reactors, MH lighting, sumps, overflows, etc.

Sounds like a good idea, but I'm not sure that we should be recommending particular "brands" of equiptment, etc.
I'll see what the other mods think.

Agree with Beth.. It is a cool idea, but thre will be FAR too many opinons, which arn't bad, to really start a good one.
Cool idea, just too many products...

you could generalize it, equipment type of the week. list skimmer for example, maybe put a pic of yours, and like in the other forum, people can post the pics of theirs, what they like and dont like about it, etc.
sharks arent endorsing one brand over another if they dont want too, and it gives people a dedicated thread to discuss specific equipment items.
examples:
skimmers
overflows
sumps
powerheads
grounding probes
ph/orp etc. probes
uv systems
chillers
heaters
aquariums
fuges
lights
hydrometers/thermometers
return pumps
fluidized bed filters
power/canister filters
hot filtration options
more im sure

I was going to suggest a DIY project of the week. Equipment is just to brandnameish and open to way to many Rios suck, and mags rule comments. It would get kind of lame after a couple posts IMO.

Yea, even if we had a common thread on powerheads, somebody would still start a new one asking what kind of powerheads to buy.
I have a lot of questions about calcium reactors and MH lighting. I was hoping one of the "experts" could write a nice post about how ca reactors work, pros and cons, equipment maintenance etc.
Even though there are several brands of skimmers, they all make bubbles and all have to be cleaned. :)
Know what I mean?

I too think that this is a good idea, but with its complications.
Perhaps another idea would be to do product reviews. This would be very helpful to many of the newer hobbyists as well as some of the seasoned veterans. Start a closed thread, or a thread that can only be "rated" which would be rating the product itself, not the thread. If desired, add the option to put in a comment, but put a character limit to avoid lengthy "second reviews" Also, avoid doing a review of very common items such as heaters, powerheads, overflows, etc. and keep it to items such as lighting ballsts/bulbs, ca reactors, wavemakers, probes/monitors, etc. etc.
I dont know, just a thought.
Another idea is to do this through submission. The reviews could be submitted by users to a mod who will review the article. just another idea.

JUSTIN THATS A GREAT IDEA , PRODUCT REVIEW IS VERY IMPORTANT : i HAVE PURCHASED SOME PRODUCTS THAT SOME THREADS HAVE MENTION IN THE PAST AND I MUST ADMITT I WAS VERY DISAPOINTED. PEOPLE ARE SO PROGRAMED TO BUY WHAT EVERYBODY SAYS BECAUSE OF THERE PAST EXPERIENCE. SOME PEOPLE ARE GOOD AT THE CHEMISTRY OF THE AQURIAUM , BUT THEN THERE ARE PEOPLE LIKE MY SELF THAT ARE VERY GOOD MECHANIC'S IN DESIGNING SUMPS AND PLUMBING. " YES GO WITH YOUR IDEA AND HAVE A RATEINGS 1-5 AND 10 LINE COMMENT:
