escape proofing a tank

I have a SFE, and I need some way to escape proof my main tank. It is currently in my quarantine tank, which is fine in terms of escape-proofness. The only spots in my main tank where it could escape are where the protein skimmer hangs on and a little hole where some tubing comes out of. Any ideas?
I also have a freshwater tank with a spiny eel around 5 inches long, but it keeps somehow getting into the spot where the filter cartridge is, and once where the biowheel is. The freshwater tank is a 29 gallon eclipse. Any ideas for this one too?

You can get some plastic mesh to cover those areas. My LFS uses it on all their tanks. they weave it through the overflow slats and also attach it around tubes with plastic ties.
