evaporation question

i have a 12gal and the water in my tank evaporates REALLY quickly im always adding 16fl oz (473 ml) of fresh water every day sometimes double that. my water parameters are perfect except 4 nitrate thats at about 40. my water temp is around 78. is this normal? and i have a lot of algae growing on the glass i clean that about once every 3 to 4 days.

Nope, you would just have to top off even more water. I top off about a gallon a day to a gallon and a half a day in my 75

Yeah, I've always figured about a gal per day for every 50-70 gallons of water

oh wow thats a lot! yeah one time i went on a 3 day vacation and when i came back my water was almost half, about 10 ml less my filter would have stopped working. i got lucky there.

You might want to consider an auto top-off to prevent that from happening next time.

I replace at least a gal a day on my 29. I have a fan blowing on it constantly to keep it cool.

I'm new to this thread writing stuff. But I have spent at least 1 year just reading and looking at others that take pictures.
I have a 55g and replace fresh about 1g every other day.
My question is how did you set up you top off system??
