Evaporation!

Help me here folks. Ever since I got my sump/fuge running I've been adding water to the tank like crazy. It seems that I have to add about a 1/2 gallon per day. It certainly wasn't this bad before I added the S/F. Should I put an acrylic top over the sump/fuge?

1/2 gallon isn't bad at all. I add 1 gallon a day to my 55g and 2 - 2 1/2 gallons a day to my 110g.
I wouldn't cover the sump/refug. Just replace the water as needed.

I travel too much to replace a gallon a day, so I'd suggest the acrylic or glass top for your S/F. I had to do this on my tank, and it's worked fairly well.

I top off 2 - 2 1/4 gallons daily in my 150. Im looking into adding an auto top off to stop the daily fill ups.(My fuge return chamber is way to small evidently). Thats should be the first step i guess., but the auto top off will work for now and can only help later.

I must evaporate about 2 gallons per day, but then I also have a kalk drip that is replacing that water loss. I have to fill my 1 gallon jug every morning and evening. I use a 2 gallon sealed container to mix my kalk.

I probably do about 5 gals a day on my 120 (190 gals total) Auto top off is the way to go. If you do a search here you'll find lots of info.

Yep, yep... evaporation is our friend
I wouldn't cover the tank to prevent evaporation. Let the tank BREATH...
