ok, well i wouldn't say i'm a vet, but ive been in the hobby for five years. i knew better.

so i was having a prob with my water level---i added a skimmer box---problem solved. then i got a really bad problem w/ microbubbles after i added the box. i resealed all the joints. then i read about cavitaton---i cleaned my pump thinking it was restricted---bad move. my skimmer box is rated for 700gph, i have a mag 9, cleaning this thing some how turned it into a mag 18 and my box can"t keep up. lol

i have an extra drain that i dont use and thankfully some extra pvc and fitting lying around so i had to fab an extra drain to my sump to handle the extra flow. it is beyond noisy, gurgles, and still have friggin bubbles!!(sigh)
i'm not sure if i want to get a different pump, maybe a mag7 or get another skimmer box a put a ball valve on it. oh yeah, it gets better......i decided to clean the pump at 10:30 "real quick before i went to bed", its now almost 3 am have to get up at 7 and i couldn't use my dremel because my nephew was asleep, couldn't find my friggin hacksaw, so i had to cut my pvc with a dagnabbit kitchen knife!!!!!! ugh goin to bed now. what do u guys think? new pump or new box?

Place a tee and a ball valve after the pump. Whatever you close off direct it back into the sump.

+1 I had to do this myself. Beats going and getting a new pump or over flow box.

just so you know if you ever need to cut pvc in a confined space or do it quietly you can use kite string ,just wrap a 12 to 18 inch piece around one index finger take it around the pipe [only 1 side do not wrap all the way]then wrap on index finger on other hand work ing back and forth it will actually melt through th pvc,
