Ever Been Stung?

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with being stung by any of their marine friends like anenome or lions?
what did/would you do in the case that something like that does happen? :happyfish

I was stung by a lionfish a few years ago while cleaning my tank. It hurt like you wouldn't believe. It felt like a hundred bee stings. My hand and arm swelled up double in size. I didn't go to the hospital, just sat their in agony wondering if I was going to die. I fell asleep and woke up later that night and was much better. I don't keep lions anymore, but if ever stung like that again, I think I would get treatment. Could be very dangerous with an even worse reaction..........Holy COW!

Oh my god, I'm sorry! The reason I asked that question is because recently I have taken some interest in the lionfish and was wondering if anyone on here had been stung by one, or by anything for that matter. I realize their potential to sting but its just that you dont ever really hear about it happening to people. OUCH! :scared:

Don't let that scare you from getting the lion fish. They are great fish and very docile to your hands in the tank. It was my fault. He was hiding under a rock and I didn't see him there. When my hand got right next to him he got scared and stung me. Whenever I needed to get into the tank where he was at, I would just shu him away and all was good.

I've never been stung by anything except a bristleworm, and that hurt pretty bad haha.

Especially on the webbing in between your fingers.

If you have a large enough aquarium get the Lionfish. They are excellent fish and like said before very docile. They will never try to attack you I would do water changes with my arm underwater and be watching tv at the same time. As long as you dont bump then hard you will be fine.

REPEATEDLY!!!! I worked at a distributor and handled over 100 stinging creatures a day for years. The very worst one was when I had a saddle carpet 24" across, out of the Indian Ocean for less than a week, flop sticky side down on the underside of my arm from my wrist to my elbow. I had to go to the emergency room to have it removed.
One time I went to scoop up a nubibranch with one of those plastic containers they use at the lfs. As soon as I stuck it in the water it exploded in my hand and my wrist bent 90 degrees sideways severly spraining it. My hand felt like it was full of fiberglass. All I saw was a blurry streak go by. It was a Mantis Shrimp that was hiding behind a rock.

My carpet stings me often when i feed my sun coral. I have to put my hand near it to feed the sun and sometimes he sneaks over and tries to grab me. Its kinda like red ants, you dont really feel it then all of a sudden you feel the sting and hes all over you. Hes grabbed me probably about 20 times but the worst i ever felt was a very slight stinging and maybe a little redness. Some day if i ever wise up, im gonna have to get a pair of gloves

My black long spined urchin got me on the finger once. I didn't know he was around. That want happen again. He left a small bit of spine in my finger and it started swelling. I got it out but I will remember that one for a while. :scared:

I was hit by wild fire coral once on my thigh. Needless to say 30 feet under water every one in our dive group heard me yell crystal clear. That was the worst I have ever felt. just as bad as my lion that got the back of my hand when I was cleaning.
Other then those two, I can not think of anything in my tanks that hurts even remotely close to those stings
Lions are awesome fish. They have great personalities I think. You just have to be aware of it and not get complacent with them and respect them as what they are wild animal that only know to eat, swim and defend itself.
Their venom is equated to that of a bee venom and should be treated as such. If your allergic or sensitive to bee venom or other allergy triggers or are not sure always seek higher medical authority.

Haha knowing that they have a painful sting wouldn't stop me from getting one! :joy: lol I love animals; I used to have a tarantula in 5th grade. The only problem is the size of my tank!! Even if I did only one dwarf lionfish, would a 20g be too small?

Some fuzzy dwarfs can be housed in a 20. But pretty much alone with slightly limited LR in the dt so they can swim around.
