Ever have annoying suggestions from friends?

Do you ever have people constantly tell you that you should get "insert fish name"? And its always a shark, or an eel, or sea horse. When you explain that the shark would eat everything, or sea horses are hard to keep alive, they just tune out, or they tell you you should have more fish. I added a feather duster and it seemed to shut people up, as did the shrimp, but its funny that someone always tells me to get an eel.
If you explain about amonia and tank size etc they just say you should get an eel. This happens everytime i have people over, or everytime my room mates look at my tank. I always tell them they can buy a fish tank and get anything they want. I dont think most people understand the more fish you have the more you have to keep an eye on things.
The best suggestion was sea bass or seal.

LOL--my neice was watching me check out pictures and info on different fish and she said "why dont you get that panther grouper ( believe it was) and those seahorses, they are neat!" I tried to explain, but like you said, in one ear and out the other....;)

LOL, I personally have always enjoyed seeing the glazed look on peoples faces as I try to explain a nitrogen cycle to them.. Unfortunately, since I tend to ramble whenever I get suggestions like that, I don't get them very often anymore :D

Actually had someone syggest I put a little uderwater castle with a diving guy in it like you see in some kid's freshwater tank. I've had people suggest that in jest, but this one was serious!

LOL I think a castle might be a little tacky. You should go with something with some class like a pirate ship or mermaid
Sharks are awesome it's just funny when people are sugesting it and you have a 55. They can't quite understand that the shark might like to have somewhere to swim. I wish I had the money for a big shark tank but my next purchase will be a 180 for another reef and then maybe a new aggressive setup.

The most common suggestion I get is "why don't you put a few more sharks in your tank?" I tell them if I went out and bought a few more sharks I'd have an ammonia spike and kill the two I have. People who arn't in this hobby seem to expect you to have a tank FULL of fish. They also don't realize little fish grow into big fish. LOL
People also ask why I don't have any of those big yellow fish(they mean yellow tangs) or a manta ray.

The one that I hear a lot when I tell people about my two tanks is, "WOW.....I've heard thats a lot of work".......of course it is, but I LOVE IT:)
At least people know a little about the hobby and can appreciate the fact that its not easy.

I'm torn..
I was going to go with the green astroterf and a pink flamingo..
But I may just have to go with spongebob squarepants. I wonder where I can find them.

:) :) My sister has a Sponge Bob in her tank. We got one at Wal-Mart it was really a cake topper. It should last a little while. It is plastic.

I have a greenish colored ceramic skull somewhere in my junk closet, but it doesn't glow in the dark.
It's frightening enough in there  and even more frightening that I kept it all these years.
Like many of you have said, I hear from people that come over to the house .....
Aw man ! You should getta __________ and put in there !
It's funny

ntvflgirl,
I don't remember where I saw it, but I was looking through the sale papers in yesterday's newspaper, and one of the big discount chains (Walmart, Kmart...) had a Spongebob-themed 1.5 gallon aquarium w/ a description that read "Spongebob decoration not included".

Well, NATURALLY!!!! Why would they include a Spongebob in a Spongebob themed tank?!! Modern marketing strategies never cease to amaze me. By the way, I really am putting in a spongebob. Can I do it now, or do I have to wait? I really can't see how it would hurt things. If I ever get a starfish, I'll name him Patrick. Can I get any kind of Squid? Hate to leave out Squidword. My kids love Spongebob, and I must say I get a kick out of him too. ;)
