Ever heard of "Black Powder"??

So I bought this shroom rock of a local reefer who was breaking down his tank (pretty cool rock), and he threw in a container of "Black Powder" and one other similar thing (although I forgot the name of the second one).
The container says it is specifically for reefs and includes rotifiers etc. Any one ever heard of this stuff? Anyone use it?
Thanks for any feedback,
Stewart

Yup...its a Marc Weiss product that in my opinion is nothing more than a snake oil. I have heard good and bad about several of his products but one thing stands out above all others...most of his wonder products contain no list of ingrediants...and personally if I don't know whats in it...it ain't going in my system!!!I have read what very experienced reefkeepers have said about his products and in a nut shell most opinions I've seen are very close to mine....so if somebody ever figures out exactly what is in his wonder products clue me in!!

Yeah that's right, it is a Mark Weiss product, as is the other one.
May I ask why you avoid his stuff? Is there a reason, or is it just a personal preference?
Thanks for the info.

I met Marc Weiss several times, seems very sincere, I use his products, black powder too, Reef Vital DNA,IMO promotes coraline algae like I never seen before,

Hmm...well that sounds promising....you can never have enough coralline...I always need more.
Drastically differing opinons...I guess that is the beauty of this board.!
Thanks for the input.

I've used Black Powder many times before. It makes no difference on the corals coloration, growth, or overall health. Most of it is wasted and picked up via protein skimming. I wouldn't recommend it.
Take Care,
Graham

I dose Reef Vital DNA and Coral Vital from Marc Weiss.
Nothing is dead. Coralline is taking off. Corals all open on (lighting) schedule.
These products were introduced to me by a reefer at my workplace whos tank is a 55g that has been running for 4 years now. His whole entire tank is purple. A little overkill, but still very nice. It even states on the bottle to reduce dosage as coralline growth becomes sufficient.
Overall, works for me.

Like I mentioned several folks will swear by the products Marc Weiss produces...but...what is in these assorted products? Does anybody know?
Personally if I can't get some indication of what a product is made up of I prefer to avoid it...just being cautious I suppose.
I can't remember which of his products it was but I recall that it was primarily suger water...nothing more. The basic impression of his assorted products based on comments from reefkeepers has been "snake oils"...and that alone has convinced me to avoid them.
But to each their own I suppose.

I think the comment of sugar water or snake oil was made about another companys product that had been tested ummm, dont no if this is correct but think it was a product marketed by two little fishes under peter wilkins and does anybody know the product.
I dont know who did the testing and not sure if it was the product combi-san,has anyone used this and got more coraline growth, etc.

I used black powder and I will say I DID notice a difference in the tank. Macro took off, hairy green algae took off. The algae sheets that look like green paper took off. I also had little tiny tubes growing out of my live rock. I would definitely say that it helps whatever it did. I don't know if it is a superhero tank saver, but I will say that I believe it helped in making the tank more attractive.
