elan, lol, i get a kick out of your friend thinking the LR moves on it's own. it is funny how little people know about marine life. I had a friend (a very smart friend) ask me what kind of animal my LR was. I was like, "that's a rock" and then he said, "oh." then he points to something else, "well what kind of coral is that?" And i say again, "that's another rock." then he thought another rock was an anenome. Again, this is out of ignorance, not stupidity. lol, people just don't know what is even alive, what's a coral, etc.

Without a doubt........my favorite part is watching my tanks age. Yes age. It happens too slow to sit and watch, but you know it's happening as the coraline forms, all the rocks blend into one big mass of identical rocks, the whole thing starts looking natural instead of looking like a pile of rocks with stuff sitting on it. Corals split, grow, and afix themselves to several rocks. Everything that isn't going to make it is gone, and everything that is going to make it looks good and is growing..........anyway.....I like watching the tank age long term........I have a 8.6 pound piece of fiji rock that I've had for about 7 years....I can show you ten pictures of it, and each one looks like a different rock from all the changes it has gone through. My fiancee and I like to talk and laugh about things gone by, and changes we've made. We look at little baby corals that have grown..........stuff like that. Little baby frag leather.....I like to look at the old pics of him super glued down....

And then lookn at the tank to see the growth. It is so slow you can't really watch it, and that's another reason I think photography is such a big part of the hobby. Sometimes things are just too slow to watch, so you need photos to realize what you have done.:)

One of the most entertaining things about the hobby are the folks who come on sites like this and with little or no experience feel compelled to answer every post, often misleading and confusing well intentioned folks. Fortunately, they're usually easy to spot, as they often average over 150 posts per month in their first few months.

i agree with rook. i enjoy wathcing the tank during the day with my crabs climbing on rocks or my tang chasing my damsel around. i really enjoy it at night with a flashlight watching all the night people playing arouund and easting things. the tanks seems really relaxing and my two little kids just love them.

I really love watching everything in my tank day or night. It has really matured in the past 15 months....so of course we bought a bigger one. Now I'm enjoying everything about setting this one up and not making the newbie mistakes of the first time. Everything in my tank is so happy I'm really worried about the move, but once it's over I'm going to enjoy watching it mature over time. And I'm really excited that now I'm going to have room to add more corals and fish:D I do not like all the filtration and plumbing and stuff like that. It gives me a headache so I use hubby for all that stuff, he likes it;)
