Long story short, DO NOT add lfs water to your tank. This just happened in my tank. The chemicals in the lfs are in their tanks that are linked together making them 100-200 gallon tanks. When you put this water into your small tank it is like a bomb went off. I just lost a reef tank that I had been building for a very long time. For gory details go to the reef tank forum and read my thread called please help tank crashing.

I'm so sorry, newreefers. I saw your other post. Hopefully others will learn from this, and some good can come out of it. Are you going to rebuild?

Well you can't just plop them in your tank. They would go into shock and get sick or die. You need to acclimate them to your tank. First float the bag in your tank for about 20 min or so. Then open the bag and add like a cup of your tank water to the bag. Then let it sit for 5 min and add one more cup of your tank water. Once the amount of water in the bag has doubled dump half the water out and continue to add more of your tank water to the bag. Then dump it all down the drain and put the fish in your tank. I usually just dump all the water out of the bag without dumping the fish then just plop him in.
