Well, i'm out of this for at least a few months. in IL right across from St.Louis and the ice and snow storm pretty much devastated this area. Lost power for days and lost everything, both my tank and my wifes. This also includes the fw puffer tank. So being that this is the second time in 6months that the storms hit the way they did and last time i busted ass and saved everything but this time it didnt happen. Hell i just changed the whole tank barely a month ago due to a leak. I've got the rock and sand i have saved and i will just keep that running till we decide to set things back up. I will continue to come and admire all of your tanks and i want to say Thank You to all who have helped and complimented on the pics we had possted on here. Would not have learned as much as i did if it wasnt for this place. Thanks All

agreed, theoretically the generator will pay for itself the first time it saves $hundreds-thousands invested into these tanks. I bought a generator the first time i lost power and lost 2 refigerators / feezers over $1k of food a few summers ago. Cost me $700 for the generator, and about $50 for cabling and a gadget that kicks it on within the second my house looses power.

Thanks and no way giving up just putting a side for a few, and defenitely getting a generator befrore it gets put back up. Just going to have it sitting in basement w/ the rock and sand in it, so all that can re-juvenate.

When the winter storm hit Texas, I went ahead and got a generator just to be safe. Cost me $475 dollars for a 3200 watts generator that will run 6 hrs with a full tank of gas.

A tank crash of any kind is devastating.

Sorry to hear about your tank. I lost most of everything last year do to the light timer sticking on while I was out of town for a few days. It's a bumber, but

[hr]
happens!
The other day it got really cold and snowed etc. I got worried and went to Atwoods and bought a 1800w gas generator just to take my worries away. It was on sale for $198 and would keep a heater and pump going so that's really all you need for a couple of days!
Good Luck in the rebuild. I know you will in the next few days you will think...Hey lets get something going in the tank...lol

I found a generator for only 150 bucks, seems to work decent. Will s.w.f let me release the web site for it? It's gas run, lasts about 8 hours on a gallon. Had a wind storm of all things knock out my power last week. I hate hearing stories like this! If you cant afford a generator I have used a portable bubble box for circullation, and taped hand warmers around the tank, and everything lived. just an alternative though, the generator is the best bet.

Thanks All and yes insurance will be out in next couple days and plan on claiming all the food, limb removal, and have to have house fixed one large branch hit the side of the house and cracked the siding and the wall. I guess it could have been worse. And ive also looked into to see if they would cover the tanks but they dont cover any animals including fish. But our kids toads, hampster, and python all made it, wasnt to worried about the cats, and they are fine. But again thanks all and I will defenitely have it back up hopefully even better by summer.

Cripps, sorry for your loss...both of them. Don't get discouraged though, you'll have something setup again before you know it.

Agreed
I bought one last year, just wondering what the gadget is that kicks on your generator? Where do you keep the generator?
