excess algae

Hey all I just got an anemone, so since I had to ugrade my lighting and keep it one for awhile I am getting a lot of brown algae one the glass and I just noticed there is a lot on the subtrate too. Are hermit crabs suppose to clean the algae? I have a few dwarf blue leg and dwarf red hermits, but they dont seem to be cleaning it. Would you suggest I get more, and should I get more snails too? If there is a fish that will do it or another type of invert will you please tell me. Oh I have a 25 gallon aquarium.
Thank you

Thats also what I heard. I have two of them and they are just lazy. But my blue legs I only have 3 right now are pretty small so I will get somemore probably this weekend. Oh and it really bugs me sometimes I have 2 turbo snails right now and all they do is graze on the live rock haha. So thats why the algae on the glass is so bad.

Its just normal brown algae. the readings are nitrites-0, nitrates-10, ammonia-0, ph 8.5, and the sg is about 1.024. Does temperature has anything to do with it? I have about 20 lbs or LR. I have 2 false percula clownfish, and 1 purple pseudochromis.

my tank has been set up for a few months. Well see I have a BTA I would like to make it a reef tank over the summer, but I am afraid the BTA might harm the coral. So yes hopefully it will be

I would test the water again, if you just added new lights and suddenly algea starts growing on everything essentially what you have done is finished the missing part of the "plant " equation. Food(phosphates & nitrates), C02, light = plants, If that is what it is.The light was the final piece of the equation and then.... algea bloom.
It could be diatoms, and if it is you should test the water for all the regulars anyhow.
Did any of that make sense? I'm starving and can't concentrate! Is it dinner time yet?!?

I had the same problem, My LFS recommended fighting conchs, they are great for the substrate. They are algae vaccums.

hmm ok I might have to get one. Also I have a big list of corals I would like to add to my tank, would anyone like to hear? I am only a beginner so can you all pick the ones that are easier to care for.

Not to rain on your parade, but I hope your list isn't terribly long since you have a 25g. Remember, these corals can and will get big in time. Only pick the ones that are not aggresive, and you should be fine. :joy:
