the most expensive one was a tang i ran across a while ago. i guess it was a really rare one it was valued at about 12,000 but was only up for trade because the guy couldn't leagelly sell it for cash. it was put up as sold so somebody traded a lot for it

Do you know the type of tang it was. I could never imagine spending that much money on a fish. I would be divorced if i did something like that. It would be nice to have that much money though

I was just wondering because I saw the other day an angel for 2000 dollars, a trigger for 800 and grouper for 600 dollars at a fish store here in miami. That is crazy. 15000 for a sea dragon?????? how does that fish look???????? is it the dragon eel???? those sell here in miami for about 600 dollars. What is the most someone has spent on a fish or coral?
thanks

the most that was spend on a fish for our tank was for my yellow tang, about 30 something. for some reason they cost a lot around here and i had to have a certain one (which also happened to cost the most...) but it was a gift so my guy paid it.

or a blue spotted jawfish, i've seen those guys for 199, but the firefish has that beat.
What is a Sea Dragon?? and why would someone pay 15000 for a fish?

Someone would pay 15000 for a fish because there are LOTS of people out in this big world with more money than brains :)
Kidding aside. If I was well off (which I am not) I would spend that kind of money on a fish. If you think about it it isnt much different for someone who makes 300,000 a year to buy a 15000 dollar fish than it is for someone who makes 20k a year to buy a 200 dollar fish.

the sea dragon is a sea horse, which i belive is endangered or close to being so
and i agree teh cost is relevant, if i made 6 times what i am now, i would buy much more expensive fish, currently our single most expensive fish is our koles tang, he is just too cool, and he was almost 50$, but we also bought a pair of firefish too(the pair being a little more), and we are loooking at either a butterfly or angel for our last fish, but they won't be over 100$

I recently visited the Baltimore Aquarium where they have a collection of both leafy and weedy sea dragons. I was surprised because I read an article on them about a year ago, and it is very difficult for even public aquariums to obtain them. They are both endangered and native only to Southern and Western Australia. The most expensive fishes I've heard of have gone to Japan and were certain species of deepwater angelfish, including a centropyge species that looked like the multibarred guys but is bright red and white. These reached into the 5 figures. I've also heard of koi getting into the 6 figures in Japan. Anybody ever been to a lfs in Japan?

nice pics baron, they are beautiful and i do agree with you, them and any otther endangered species should be concentrated on their preservation, not on our owning such an endangered species, just so we can say that we have one, and hobbyists should work to preserve them in the wild, so that someday all can enjoy, not jsut one or 2 of us, i think that is what makes this hobby so great, the fact tah most of us seem to care, but there are a few who don't seem to care enough
