I don't want to make anyone show their age ;) but I was wondering how much experience was out there.

Im a newbie, but I learn fast:)
Less than a year in salt and fresh. I decided last semester to jump into the hobbie, and have been here since then.

ive always liked fresh fish kinda, and i loved to look at saltwater fish, but i always figured it would be impossible to do. well, a neigboor was gettting rid of a 40g tank and he ask me and my 2 frends if we wanted it so we took it. we put frogs in it and it was fun untill the winter wen they died. then one frend sed we should try saltwater, which we didnt think we could do in the beggining but decided to try. we set it up at his house but we were not very smart then, so the tank crashed:eek: then i helped him cleen it out, and me and the other kid set up our own 10 gallon, he kept his and i upgraded to a 55, and the other used the 40 again and were all doin fine. sorry to bore u all, just got so into the story!lol

Wow, a good verity. I agree, a lot can be learned in a year... But as with anything, it's hard replacing years of experience. I've been in it for just about 1-year.
As for you youngsters .... Thumbs up to ya:cool: . It shows real maturity that you have the dedication to maintain a sw tank. I have a 12-year old daughter that has a hard time taking care of herself much less sw tank;).
Thanks for all the replys... By the way, I set up my refug last night using an old 10g wet/dry filter. All looks good except I do not have a float switch for the pump. Anyone know were to find a good float switch?

'Bout 5 years. But, I am still learning things about this hobby every day. I have a theory about this hobby I like to think I coined. :D It is:
The person who thinks they know everything there is to know about reef keeping is only fooling themselves.

Hey, I started my first FW aquarium in 1972 when I was 12 years old, so you can do the math.) I have learned a lot and have always been upgrading ever since. I finally took the plunge into SW this past Christmas and I love it!! The big difference is there are places like this to come to and to learn, that wasn't available back when I first started. Many of my fishes would have lived if I would have had information at a click of a button like we have today.

My first saltwater tank was in 1988 and the techniques have changed so much over the years. Anyone remember the undergravel filter craze? This board is great, I only wish I had found it sooner.
