Explain this to me because I don't get it!

Went to traffic court today. I listened to quite a few cases and the maximum fines.
Here is a list
Driving with no insurance--200.00
No seatbelt----85.00
Running a stop sign---25.00
driving the wrong way or on wrong side of road---10.00
Which of those four is most dangerous to society?
The fines make no sense.

I am shocked at the bottom 2. They should be at the very least $200. I think driving w/out insurance is a good deal at $200.

First 2 are more common tickets written. Thats why they are more.
Like above said, Its all about the money..

It's simple. You have to make it more costly to drive without insurance than to buy insurance. Just like parking tickets - it it were $5 and the lots were $20 a day, it would cost the same to park at an expired meter even if the metermaid came by every two hours and wrote tickets.

we can't even get Phil Spector in jail for murder, I don't think those moving violations are going to get anything but $$$. We just had an incident here in STL where an illegal immigrant plowed his SUV into a restarant and almost killed several people. TWO months ago this SAME guy was involved in a hit and run, the police tracked him down and did nothing but ticket him

Something tells me our boy Darth was in court on a Driving with No Insurance ticket. Sounds like sour grapes to me...

No the seatbelt was mine...there was another fine I heard for 450.00, but I didn't catch that violation.
I refuse to wear my seatbelt. If I wish to fly through a window of my car when I get an accident, that is my own personal choice.

In my area, the most expensive fine (for a civil infraction) is failing to yield for a school bus. Completely understandable if you ask me.

These are crazy if you ask me both can kill someone or do bodily harm

see.......thats where I have a problem. Same goes for the person on the motorcycle without the helmet. Then the insurance company should have the right to cancel you.....because we all pay for your option to not help yourselves be given the chance to be saved from massive harm.

I think people caught driving without insurance should be fined minimum of $1000. My wife was rearended last year by a kid who didn't have insurance and it was a nightmare for us. Lucky for us, she wasn't hurt.
I think the fine for not wearing a seatbelt should be a minimum of $500 dollars--it'd be a great source of revenue for the local government at the expense of really foolish people. I think there should be massive fines for any driving their child around without a proper car seat, I see 2 year olds all the time sitting without anything in the back of cars...drives me nuts!

Unless it is dangerous for society, there shouldn't be any fines at all, in my opinion. Instead, make sure that those who go in to get their licenses are also made fully aware of the dangers of riding without seatbelts, etc.

Without knowing the background of the people involved in each case it is difficult to compare. There are always more factors involved in a case besides what the ticket says. Signs get damaged and are hard to read, people make a wrong turn before seeing they went the wrong way.
