I'm so steamed right now. I checked my IMclient & found a Facebook "plugin" enabled there. ...a plugin that I never installed & never approved. I have no idea what it's doing there, and can only imagine... I think I'm going to cancel my Facebook account and reformat my hard-drive. Spyware is not ok, it's not cool, I don't care WHY you put it there - this is my life, my computer and no one has any business peeking into it.
I am so angry right now.
So. Very. Angry.

I don't mind if they tell others that I'm a married white guy in his late 20's that likes top gun or scarfs. I guess it's just my opinion, but I don't have anything to hide so I have nothing to worry about.

lol i love these things...who cares, its your own fault if they get information you dont want them to have. If something is that important to you, you shouldnt be posting it online plain and simple.

I am a facebook junkie although I have always had mixed feelings on Social Networking sites. Although they are fun and a great tool to connect with friends, it is the public web. I am truly amazed at some of the information people put out there.
Its amazing what an employer can learn about it's employees through Myspace and FB......

It's people's own fault for not actually reading all the terms and agreements most people just click ok. That is why all the info I have on my computer is encrypted http://www.truecrypt.org/ <----(mods this has nothing to do with fish) It would be pointless for you to cancel facebook now all the information they wanted out of you they already got.

when my company hires someone, this is what they do:
Myspace
facebook
google
you shouldnt appear in anything in google, and your myspace and facebook better be clean, otherwise keep sending resumes

u guys r not quite getting what im saying; the video is about data mining and your relinquishing your rights to every thing you post on ur Facebook...which most pple dont realize ayhow, and should know.
The part that makes me seriously upset about the whole thing was the spyware on my private instant messenger client - a part of my computer that had nothing 2do with facebook, a piece of software i never downloaded, enabled or approved. I dont have my accurate personal info on facebook or any other blog/network site, nor do i post pix of my face or any contact information, I'm not stupid. I also make it a habbit of denying every app & I NEVER download executables.
Despite all my caution, there was Facebook spyware on my PRIVATE encrypted IM client. THAT is what I'm saying.

They have over 400 employees there. Does anyone remember facebook beacon? Anyway, they have to make money in some way
. What if you show up in google because of an award you got or a published literary work? Can you elaborate on the "you shouldn't even show up on google?"

I used to show up on Google b/c of the animal hospital I worked at. pissed me off sooooo much, they INSISTED on using our full real names and putting photos of us on the internet. One tech nearly sued, I'm glad I left that place. It's so ridiculous and unsafe and stupid.
It's better just to remain anonymous.

Why is it so bad to have your name pop up on google? Like what's going to happen? If people don't have your social security number, then you're safe. I just don't see what the big deal is.
I'm actually kind of proud when my name pops up on google and my accomplishments are shown.
What is wrong with having some of your info public? Or is it just another thing to gripe about?
We live in the information age. It's inevitable. We're going to get to a point where you'll have to live under a rock in order to be truly anonymous. In my opinion, just as long as it's not something that can damage my life, I'm fine with it.

sure showing up on google for something valuable isnt a bad thing, but that will/should already be listed on your resume. Showing up on google for something that isnt on your resume is usually the kiss of death.

I was making reference to how the company I work for screens employees they interview. They search google, so showing up is usually a very bad thing.

Ah. Okay, that makes a lot of sense.
