failing suction cup fix

just a tip for those of you using suction cups to hold up heaters, power heads, food clips and the like.
you have likely noticed that over time they start to get soft and lose there suction ability. when you have had enough, and the suction cups are not too far disintegrated, you can breath new life into them!
i have only seen this posted one time, and i tried it last night and it works well.
collect all the cups you want to rejuvenate, i usually will get all of them together so they are all like new.
get a frying pan of boiling tap water rolling nicely, and add the cups. make sure its enough water that the suction cups are submerged.
let the boil for 10 minutes. during this time you may want to clean any coralline algae off the wall where you plan on sticking the items.
shut off the burner, pour out the majority of the water in the sink, slowly. try to keep the suction cups in the pan, and maybe a cup or 2 of water. add cold tap water to the pan to start cooling them off, pour out the water and repeat the cooling process two more times. the water at this point should be cool, and the pan should be cool too. take out the suction cups and re-apply!

Nice. I can use this for my shaving mirror in my shower. How important is the cooling process? Can I just dump in cold water?

yea just dump it in. you want the rubber to cool for at least a minute in cold water so it hardens and so you dont burn yourself.
if you take out heated rubber then it can cool and harden in a shape that it was not meant to be, and it will be less effective. if you do, no problem, just re-boil.
