false percs... what kind of anemone?

You don't have to have a RBTA, those are the expensive ones. You can get a regular green one for around $30.

But a false perc is not a natural symbiont with the BTA, so it's iffy on whether they'll use it as a host..

They often do use them as hosts from what I have heard around here.
You can try a carpet anemone if have enough lighting for them, but they are even more expensive than BTA's.

my lights cant handle a carpet... BTA's around here for greens are even 60 bucks plus..
i believe my PC lights efficient enough for BTA but not for a carpet or other high light anemones.

What part of Michigan and how many watts are your lights?
How deep is the tank?
How much live rock do you have? and how high in the water column does it reach.
Please tell me about your system.

i am in hazel park... city that touches the D north of 8 mile.
i have a 40 high with 50 pounds or so of rock. i used aragalive reef bottom (live cultured large grained sand mix). tanks been set up for 3 months now (yes, still young for an anemone- hence my not buying one yet). i have 130 watts PC over my tank and an additional 20 watts NO.
the anemones i'm looking at have been under VHO lights for the entire time i've had my tank (some have sold yes, but they still have some of the same bubbles for the entire time, they seem to be doing great under the lights. i have also read many times that bubble tips are not as light needy as carpets or sebeas.
my live rock reaches 6 inches from the top on one side and 8-10 on the other... i have a frogspawn and a bubble on the top shelf so they get enough light, they seem to be doing good...
i am attaching an old pic of the tank so you can see the height of the rocks... rock set up is the same in the pic as it is now.
i think the tank is 30" deep.

before anyone tells me how the tang is too big for the tank.. remember i said things are different now.. tang is history. right now i have 1 royal gramma, 2 clowns, 2 firefish, 1 CBS, 1 porcelain crab (somewhere), 20 blue legged hermits, 4 margarita snails, 1 unknown snail, 1 frogspawn, 1 bubble, 1 purple tree gorgonian (which i hate), a few xenia stalks, and lots of live plant growth on the left side of the tank.

if SWF gets any nice zoo selection i'd order in a heartbeat... but to this point it's slim pickins on the zoos.

Did you see in the classifieds, someone in Michigan is trying to put together a group order to save in shipping. Doesn't reallly help if you truly have your heart set on a green one.....

Understood. :) The Anemone they ship will turn green with proper food & lighting but not having the guarantee is a definate downfall. I've found the best way is with a group order where you get free shipping but only have to buy what you want.

Really? Is this true of all non-Rose BTA's ???? I thought green was a different color morph or something...

I've seen Green, Brown, Red, and Rose. The ones sold here look like green. I could be wrong, I'm no Anemone expert.
Perhaps someone that has purchased one and fed it well can chime in and tell me that they're Brown.

Very pretty suprbeagle - was it always that color or did it "green up" after you brought it home?

It was purchased green. I try to avoid bleached anemones as they can be tricky to bring back sometimes. This one is actually much greener in person - I have an older digicam and it has a hard time accurately portraying colors under the MH.
