Hey I set a 20G up five days ago. I have 45 lbs. of live rock and 20 lbs of live sand. My filtration is a emperor 280. Should I add any fish or shrimp or anything to help me cycle? Or will the rock and sand take care of that?

DO NOT put a mandarin goby in that small of a tank. They have to have lots of amphipods and stuff to eat. It will starve. I even have to supplement my mandarin with live brine shrimp in my 55gal with 70 lbs live rock. IMHO

I just have regular lights...I think I have a 20,000K daylight bulb in it though. For filtration, a Emperor 280.

Dab,
Thanks for adding that.....DO NOT add any type of Mandarin, or blenny that is a copepod eater or they will starve to death...I mean Hey, its your tank, but Im sure you dont want to be the cause of a fish dying...
You can add a pc of frozen or cooked shrimp to help get the process started, but please wait at least 4-6 weeks for your tank to cycle completely before adding fish, alot of people think its OK to add Damsels to a tank to :help it cycle: but all your doing is 9 out of 10 times, killing the fish for what a pc of shrimp can do..With that much rock, you really wont be able to add many fish, less than half your tank is rock, not water, but Im sure it will look great when your done with it..
GL and Welcome

First of all, I didn't ever intend to put a mandarin in their...someone else recommended I do so. Second, there is about 15 gallons of water in there actually.
