I have finally decided to get one, because my levels are so good. My 180 has great levels, but I battled with the levels in my 46. I have some marine plants in there that have brought my nitrates down, to ZERO!! Occationally my nirates read 5. That is usually before I do my water changes.
I have been feeding my angel nori. I was wondering... I leave it in the tank for like 2 hours. Whatever she does not eat I take out. Will that raise the nitrates?? Or would it not affect my levels because I take it out?? I was just wondering.
Thanks,
Leopard

I just bought a kole tang yesterday, and I am very happy with it. It eats the algae, and eats pellets, and is a beautiful addition to the tank. There's not much besides feeding it and keeping good water parameters that you need to do, and they are very peaceful. They don't get to big either, like most tangs, I wouldn't doubt it would do fine in your 46 if you wanted. Goodluck to you with whatever you decide. :happyfish

I'd reccomend feeding what ever the fish eats in a couple hours, i feed my Achilles almost daily with small amounts of nori, so as to not pollute the water.
Whatever food that is not consumed will have an effect on nitrates as it decays.

I heard that they have a different diet then most tangs. they are algea, and detritus eaters
Yup, they are in the britsle tooth family. They like to pick at rocks and sand. Their mouth has bristles on them for feeding. I don't have a KOle but I do have a tang from the family. It's a spotted bristle tooth. Very peacful and keeps the sand pretty clean. I don't put alot of algae in the tank because the snails will end up getting it before the fish.
The Kole will stay small too.
Good luck hunting one down.

Anyone ever see a Gem Tang, they are black with gold spots. I guess they are pretty rare and expensive, because the web sight did not even post the price, it said to call for the price.

lol.. I just bought a kole tang the other day as well... and it has been eatting the algae growing on the glass and where the algae mag. cant get and nipping at the live rock like crazy... so far hes not ate anything but this ... Ive offered Nori, Spirulina flakes, Garlic flakes, LIVE green calupera and red macros and also some spirulina enriched brine... with no success.. ive had it for 3 to 4 days I forget which day I bought it LOL!!!
this Kole tang is 4-5inches.... and very colorful.. I do belive its wild caught considering that captive tangs are almost IMPOSSIBLE if absolutly IMPOSSIBLE to come by!
I just worry it will start to death.. its stomach is already sunken in a bit!!!

In my tank I have a sailfin tang, achilles tang, and a chevron tang. If I had to pick one of them it would probably be the achilles but they are all so different looking that it is hard to pick just one.
