Steak Tampiquena

Local place outside Mobile AL. I usually don't enjoy Mexican/other Hispanic eateries because I don't like beans and tomato slices/pieces, but the Tampiquena was great, bit of monterey jack freshly shredded overtop, with fresh yellow rice.

Growing up in SoCal you gets spoiled by all the good Mexican food. Then I moved to Montana. Might as well get microwave burritos from Safeway

The best tacos I've ever had were at "El Poblanos" in Mexico... not sure exactly where it is in mexico because friends have always taken me, but it's this shack with like 4 bar stools. When you place your order, they take the dough and make a tortilla for you right there... then they flip it and add all the ingredients. Mmmm.
My other favorite mexican place is El Pollo Norteno in Oxnard, CA.
Ah crap I just realized you asked for a favorite mexican dish, not restaurant... oops.
Chimichangas usually.

Beef Enchiladas. I'm actually making some right now. I starting cooking the beef about 2.5 hours ago and at this point it just falls apart. I can't wait to eat!

My best friend growing up was Mexican. Boy, could his mother cook! She was always cooking and we were always over there eating.
Lots of Mom and Pop shops - the food was always great. We had Taco Bell - but it was at the bottom of the food chain!
Can't find anything that compares around the Philly area. Hmm...I think it's time for a trip back home.

wow! I haven't even heard of most of these dishes!! I LOVE Mexican food, but I really don't know much about it.... it's difficult to find good, authentic Mexican food on the East Coast, but what I have managed to scrounge up has been delicious. My only issue is I cannot STAND Cilantro ::barfs:: I'm part of the 30% of the population that tastes dish-soap instead of the herb. BLECH!

I like it in moderation....just don't smother my food in it...It can be overbearing if you get too much.

Ok. I've been thinking about this thread all week. And I just couldn't take it anymore! So today, my son and I drove down to Wilmington, DE and went to the Mexican Post restaurant.
Closest thing to Ca. Mexican food in the area. Had my favorites - Chile Relleno and enchiladas. Of course with the standard beans and rice. Had to order the extra hot salsa. And had a dos echis, to boot.
MMM ...good.
