PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
DO NOT buy one of these animals!
THEY WILL DIE.
THEY DO NOT SURVIVE IN AQUARIA
THEY ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP!!!!!!!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not buy one!!!
They require very specific particle sizes of food, which is species specific. They need very large tanks, are nocturnal, and will (with about 99.999% probability) starve to death in the tank. I have only heard of one person ever keeping one relatively successfully. It was a large, mature reef tank, and apparently had some urchins that almost constantly spawned. But this may or may not have related to the keeping of the feather star (Crinoid, aka sea lily). The world's expert on these animals can not keep them in tanks.
PLEASE do not try it!
(I am not above begging!!!)
Do they have a puppy eye begging emoticon??? Insert here --->
Basket stars (not feather stars) are a type of brittlestar. Need equally large tanks, are nocturnal, require specialized attention and will definitely outgrow a 30g tank. I do not recommend them at all either, though the odds of survival are better. Sterling had a true basket star, which now resides at the Shedd aquarium :D
IMO, both true basket stars and feather stars should be left in the ocean!!!

Please listen to Ophiura!! I did have one. I kept it for about 9 months. Very difficult to feed. I had to wait until around 10:00 p.m. each night to feed it because that's the only time it would come out. You'll never see it unless you like sitting with a flashlight.
As Ophiura said, I donated it to the Shedd Aquarium because I felt they could take much better care of it.
They are better off in the ocean.

I did not buy one:D , but the lsf in Arkansas sold my sister one and she has a 30 gallon tank, and I told her she needed to take it back, but the lsf store will not take it back now. Oh they told her it was a very hardy star.:(
But I told her I would check with you guys just to be safe.
Thanks alot you guys and gals are great with the knowledge and fast response.
HMMM maybe that is why my tank is a success:D :D :D

There are a lot of stores that will tell you something to get you to buy them to get your money.
is she has access to the net tell her to come here and ask before buying and will help her wallet and the SW life she wants to keep.
