Feather Duster shedding?

OK, I have a question about my Feather Duster. He seems to have left his tube. It is crazy. The tube is just laying there empty and just the worm is sitting attached to a rock. Due to the fact that he is out of his tube, he is always out filtering, with no protection.
What happens now? Is he going to eventually die now? Is it possible for him to grow another tube to hide in?
What can I do?

They can make another tube if nothing picks on it. It usually isn't a good sign if they leave their tube but it isn't always a death sentence. Is there anything reason it might have been unhappy?

I had a beautiful double headed one that was like a xmas tree. He was purple with yellow tips! He crawled out, and I never saw him again.
I think he was eaten

Sign of him not liking where he was at when they leave the tube. When they pop their top means they are stressed. If there is nothing to pick at the worm he will be ok, more than likely I believe he will be comsumed if you have crabs or fish in there too.
