feather rock .

Can you use feather rock in a reef tank??
Im trying to come up with other ways to do live rock. I know I would need to seed it but other than that and rincing it will it work..

I wish I could tell you why exactly........but no. Don't use it. A quick search lead me to a nano site and since I'm not a member I couldn't access the thread. I'm just chiming in here so maybe you will get a more in depth response.

Feather rock. AKA Lava rock is a BIG NO NO in the SWT world.
I will not get in to all the details But the simplified version.
Magma Contains all types of minerals and heavy metals. 1 of them being copper.
Magma cools in to a porous stone called Pumice AKA Lava rock, Feather rock (Due to the weight)
ANY and ALL Lava rocks will contain heavy metals. If even 1 of the pieces contain any amount of cooper your tank is DEAD.
Adding this to your tank is no better then going to the gulf and adding the sea water there in to your tank.
