Wondering what could be the problem with keeping feather dusters alive. ph is 8.2, alk is good temp at 78. they last about a couple of days then the feathers drop off. fish in the tank are 2 clowns, 4 damsels the rest is crabs, snails and i sand sifting star. any input would be great

When they drop their head it doesn't mean the worm is dead. Most likely the drop is caused by stress. The best thing you can do is NOT touch the tube and let it sit in it's place unless you see the worm dead. My Fountain Feather lost it's head a while back and about 3-4 weeks later a new feather was forming again.
Stability is everyting with these guys.
What are the exact water parameters (nitrite, nitrate, ammonia)?
