I am interested in getting a chocolate chip starfish...My tank is established and running smooth...just curious how difficult they are to keep or feed. I am in the habit of just dropping some brine in the tank and clip some seaweed up....will I need to do anything special to feed the choco chip??????

its not that hard to feed starfish, i've seen them eat dead feeders, it doesnt look that complicated, all u do it drop a feeder (must be dead or else the struggle will allow them to flee) near ur starfish if it comes up for food, and it will slowly drag it in with its .. moving thingies

I drop some frozen krill underneath my stars for them to eat. I have a Chocolate Chip, African Red General, Bali, and Bahama star. I feed them twice a week.

I put a piece of shrimp under my cc stars leg when he comes to the top....means he's hungry according to someone here. It must be true, cuz he loves it. It's fun to feed him/her????IT?????

my turtle died last year when i went on vacation (thanks mom), so i've just been feeding my chocolate star leftover reptile sticks when it comes to the top wanting it. it'll usually make it's move late at night and book it to the top of the tank leaving an arm up against the top of the water. when i put a reptile stick or live food on the end, it's feelers will take it down to the mouth fast as heck. very interesting creature for something with no face or eyes.

I have a red general starfish, it's a lot like a choc chip. He's the easiest thing in my tank to feed. I just shove food under his arm when hes on the glass. A piece of shrimp/squid a few times a week is all I give him.

starfish dont have brains either, but its amazing how they reproduce by making each one of their hands go in another direction, and when they regenerate, u get 5 new starfish

They DO NOT NEED and SHOULD NOT BE FED feeders.
Anything meaty- but diverse - will do. Shrimp, krill, frozen silversides, squid, mussel, clam, shrimp pellets, etc.
Have you ever seen a tank of feeder fish? They aren't the healthiest of fish. Why would you risk the health of your tank to a $.10 feeder fish when totally unecessary? Nor do asian freshwater carp commonly get eaten by indo pacific saltwater animals in the wild.
Don't make life difficult for yourself. Get a bamboo skewer, put the food on the end of it, and touch it to the tip of the star. Should grab it. Remove anything that is not eaten.
Also keep in mind that brine is a very poor diet long term. You should try and diversify the diet of your fish anyway. There are loads of fabulous frozen foods out there these days that proved a lot of minerals and nutrients as well as diversity for the fish. Improves health and color.
