feeding clownfish and pico pics

Hi I have been having a problem with feeding my clowns. I am not sure how much or how often to feed them. They are the only two fish in my 12 gallon nano and sometimes I think I am feeding them to much other time to little. I also don't knowhow often I should feed them. I have been feeding them once between 12:30 and 1:30 and again between 7:30 and 8:30.
Should I only do like 2 or 3 grams? oh and BTW I have been feeding them a medley of seafood that I pureed in my food processor with some nori in it for my other reef critters. My next batch that I make will probably include some small frozen shrimp like brine or mysis as well as some vitamins. But for now it is just a mix of various sea creatures. Also should I add flake to the diet every few days or something? because some dicriptions that I have seen say they like flake. But I don't know.
well this pic is not of my tank but I thought it was just awsome!. It is a two gallon pico that belongs to Marc, the president of the DFW Marine Aquarium Society(of which I am a member). That little white figure in the back is Casper the seahorse. his site melevsreef.com is freaking awesome! and he has SOO much info under the hidden treasures link. Anyway I thought this tank was really cool and was contemplating doing something similar.

thanks very much

That is a pretty cool picture.
They say you are supposed to feed your fish only what they can eat in 20 seconds. After that, it starts settling on the bottom. I'm not sure how much that would be... it all depends on the fish itself.
I feed my clown a mix of a frozen food called marine cuisine, and bloodworms. The marine cuisine is a frozen mix of brine, mysis, krill, and other stuff, along with "color enhancing vitamins". He goes crazy over it.
BTW, you like anime? My husband is a crazy fan! What's your favorite?

I like a variety of different things but my current favorites are Gundam Seed Destiny, Kyo Kara Maou!, and I also like my more mature vampy animes like Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Hellsing, and Trinity Blood. Though I have watched and even liked stuff like Reign: the conqueror(about alexander the great) and not liked other stuff like I My Me Strawberry Eggs(seriousley that's the title)
.
However Lately I have noticed that I am spending way more money on my aquarium than on Anime. My friends were furious that I chose to spend my savings on my nano cube rather than on a trip to an anime convention like they wanted. But I don't reget it for a second.

I LOVE MY AQUARIUM

lol, it's a tuff decision.
I liked vampire hunter d, loved hellsing, but i haven't seen the whole series yet, i haven't seen trinity blood or the other things yet, but my hubby loved trinity blood. He's watching cowbow beebop right now, and his all tim fav. is neon genesis. He just got done watching rahxephon... i didn't get it though.
I was never into anime until i met him. My fav. is full metal alchemist... i just think it's cute, but i'm a girl...

email mer for the dfw marin aquarium Society link
the forums are where all the action is at. they have an AWESOME sell forum neer the bottom where you can get great prices on frags, equipment and livestock. there are also many forums on coral propogation, raising your own food(plankton) corals and fish. there are also listings and forums for various LFS. I am on there at least once a day to check out the sell forum. I got my clownfish from a guy running an opperation out of his apartment and all my corals from various other people in the sell forum.
posting and reading on the forum is free but there is a 15 dollar membership fee to be a member of the club. but you get discounts at various lfs and can also go to the meetings and go to the frag swap.
neeways check out the site!

I never really got into Cowboy Bebop or Evangelion. they just didnt really do anything for me. However I have to ask weather you saw the original vampire hunter d(which sucked) or bloodlust (which ruled).
happiness to find another fan

Don't know much about Anime (besides liking Ninja Scroll and Ghost in the Shell), but I can tell you that I feed my fish only once every other day. I make sure that they eat for at least 1.5 minutes during that feeding, and that everyone is eating healthy.

Ghost in the Shell

Oh yes, if you're worried about too much food, you can try this: slowly feed the fish with a turkey baster. This allows you to control how much food goes in the tank at a time, and allows you to spot feed the fish, so food's not floating around everwhere. I've found this helps to avoid a lot of build up on the substrate from left-over food.

thanks for the advise. I just now got back from getting a sand sifting star which will hopefully help with the algal buildup in my substrate. I actually went in to get a really pretty red starfish that I saw last week for my tank glass. he was probably about an inch across. I however ended up with a sandsifting star and a peppermint for my 2.5. that always happens to me. But I still intend to get the red star.
BTW Have I exceeded my bioload for a 12 gallon nano cube? I was told I could have lots of critters but not lots of fish as they excrete a more and need more room.
I have:
A mated pair saddleback clowns(which will hopefully be in a larger tank by the end of the year)
3 astrea snails(though I think 1 may have bitten the dust)
3 turbo snails
1 peppermint shrimp(I think he may have bitten the dust as well)
1 sand sifting star
8 hermit crabs(my friends gave them all names too
)
a myriad of copopods and bristle worms(god I hate those things)
I would like to add a cleaner shrimp and the small red star.
opinions please. thanks

I had a sand sifting star once....until I learned it depletes my DSB of valuable critters and that it would eventually starve. In fact, after reading Ophiura's posts over and over and over (yea, they're great) I've sworn off stars all together.

is there some other creature I could get to help with the algal growth on the substrate? I do not want to add fish.
thanks

There are lots of creatures that will stir up a sand bed. Nassarius snails and a conch do the job for me.
What type of algae are we talking about?
I would search for the root of the problem. Did you recently change lighting? How long is your photoperiod? Do you use tap water in your tank? Do you use additives?

I have not recently change lighting. I do not use tap water in my tank. And I had only begun adding phyto plankton after the algae was already there. It kinda reminds me of diatomes.

before you go buying that red starfish, i'd find out more information about it. Some starfish get really big, and aren't reef compatible.

The star apparentley does not get any bigger that 1.5 inches and the lfs guys says that they are completely reef safe. though the fact that they were all over the glass in his frag tank kinda gave that away.
Also KDFrosty, what would you suggest I add to 'beef up' my crew?
thanks
