don't spot feed them, you'll probably just scare them back into their hole. just feed your tank and they will eat.

ahh ok, it wasn't even phytoplex lol, it was chromaplex... this is for filter feeding based on phytoplankton... that will work right?

Not sure if that's what you should be feeding them or not but I believe to properly feed feather dusters you should squirt the food underneath and to the side, right in the middle gets them almost no food due to the way the feathers grab food.

Squirting the food in thier 'center' is like trying to feed thier butt. The above post was correct in that you should squirt the food behind them in the flow so the food passes throught the feathers towards the front. By time you do this they usually freak out and retract... so just dump a capful of phyto or whatever in a few times a week.

how bigs your tank??
just drop some drops of it into your tank... the water flow will circulate it around and your duster will def catch some of it

Does anyone know if they will be safe with a blue tang, butterfly, and clowns? What about peppermint, cleaner shrimp, sally light foot, and emerald crab? I have these species and want to add some dusters too.

Almost the same situation. I want to add some dusters. I have a 55gal with 1 Foxface, 1 blue hippo tang, 1 cleaner wrasse, 1 coral banded shrimp, a few mexican turbo snails, hermit crabs, lankia starfish, sand sifting starfish, and 2 cleaner clams Oh, and some kind of purple anemone whose actual name I can't remember right now.. Hitian (sp?) maybe. Oh, and will be picking up a mated pair of clownfish soon. Safe to add some?

So what has been decided as far as feeding the dusters? Put a few drops of the phytoplex in the water? I am having the same concerns about if my duster is getting proper feedings....

So should I just put a couple of teaspoons of PhytoPlex dircetly into the tank, of should I spot feed with syringe the feather dusters??

Curious as to what your concerns are? I'm not sure that dusters need supplements. Feeding fish and regular water changes should be all they need I thought.

My concerns involve whether or not my duster is getting proper nourishment. If I understand you correctly, just normal feedings of my fish will somehow feed the duster? How does this work exaclty?
Are there any specific foods that I should feed my fish that will be more likely to also breakdown in water so that the dusters will be fed?
I am just wanting to do my best to keep the dusters healthy. I am new to having them in the tank. I am always afraid of the unknown I guess you could say!!

Gotcha. Feather duster worms eat organics. Having live rock, sand, algae, and fish all provide food for dusters. Live rock and sand has all sorts of microfauna and critters that are constantly reproducing and dieing or being eaten by other inhabitants whose remains get filtered through the fan worm provided they get close enough and are broken down.. Feeding your fish also is a source for your duster. If you have enough flow your duster should get its share. Just make sure you are offering your fish a varied diet of quality foods and you should be good. I have read that some feed them phytoplankton though I don't believe it is necessary.

I drop a capful of phytoplankton in about once a week to be on the safe side. I have a duster and an anenome crab. I have read that if you run a skimmer, turning it off for a bit while you feed the filters is a good idea.
The only problem I have is that my duster had a shell or two attached to his tube when I got him. I see my crabs trying to dig it off of him occasionally. For anybody that has them, could I remove those attached shells without hurting the duster?
