'Feeding' live rock

I bought a live rock to cycle my tank! I have a 55 gallon tank and all that's in there is this 12lb live rock, washed sand, RO water and salt. When I turn on the light dozens of wispy things, 'tube' worms, little dusters and the like all shoot back in their holes. I believe they are trying to feed but i am worried there is nothing in the tank for them to eat. Are the OK, should I ghost feed, anything else? Thanks.

They are filter feeders and there is no need to feed the tank. You may some dye off on the live rock when your levels spike but they will come back.

Grind up a small pinch of flake food and feed every other day. You might have more then filter feeders in there.

topof, I have 12lbs in a 55 as well, we both need more, but a small feather was atatched, pick up some liquid invert food to feed him, he won't eat the flakes, good luck!

Are you cycling also or is your tank up and running? The LFS gets delivery's on Thursday nights and I plan to get another rock this week. Either that or pay my

. And this thing is just covered with life, tiny 'bugs', plants, a snail like thing that is the exact same color as the LR it's self. Could anything have come along that I don't want in my tank?

we too have live rock. we have a 56 gal. and about 80+ pounds. we've only had ours up and running 4 months. we slowly buy rock that looks good and can afford. man this is lots of$$$s. but we realy enjoy it, better then going to dinner and movies. and yes we too have hitchhikers.we have tube warms, featherdusters, polups, we have a small white worm with antinies on the frount. looks like a yard slug, but in the tank. been told it's accually a small nudibranch of sorts and good for the tank. we also have some small hermits that came in on one, and three baby starfish. it's amazing what you'll get in on it.we figure we'll need about 20+ pounds to go to surport the dragonet we have. we hatch brine shrimp for it for now. we also liquid feed a couple times a week. good luck and keep your eyes out, never know what you'll get. :happyfish
