feeding ricordias

I have always fed my ricordias mysis w/a turkey baster but I'm starting to wonder if it's really necessary. Do they have to be fed or can they filter things out of the water and live off of the light?

They can live off the light. However, feeding mysis will greatly speed up their growth and reproduction.

I don't directly feed mine and they have doubled over the past two years.

Light and what they get from the water column will suffice. Target feeding tends to foul the water more and is not necessary to sustain this beautiful coral.
