mine will eat just about anything frozen and meaty first thing it ate when I got him was a piece of krill. Just make sure that your eel can find it since they can't see very well. You will most likely just about have to tap their head with it. Don't worry if he doesn't eat right away they can go quite awhile without food.

Try raw shrimp and squid from the grocery store. Pretty cheap and lasts awhile. Cut a chunk about the size of his head and thaw it out then put it on a feeding stick and put around his face. When mine was that size I fed him everyday. Now he is about 22" long and I feed him everyother day. I make mine come up to my feeding hole in the eggcrate lid so he comes out or else he would never come out of the conch shell he hides in. Here's a pic of mine now just to show you where your little guy is heading.

I have had him a year and 2 months. If you feed every day they will grow really, really fast and it also slows their aggression and desire to escape. They do put a bit of load on filtration so you will want to filter your tank as good as possible. If you really want some entertainment buy a big hermit and feed the hermit a big peice of squid or shrimp. Then watch as the eel finds it and they fight for the food. The eel climbs right into the big shell and they roll around the sand fighting for the food. Very hilarious.

Also that pic is about 4 months old and I think he has even grown since then. I will try to take a more recent pic if I can get him out in the open.

I got mine when he was about the same small size as yours. I fed him the small pieces of silversides or the small runt ones that tend to come in every package. Now it is a mixture of silversides, squid, krill, and sometimes clam meat. I've had him for a little over a year now and he is about the same size now as the picture above from sean. Does your do a lot of digging? Mine has rearranged parts of my tank to created more tunnels and hiding places. Good luck!

My Snowflake Eel ate freeze dried krill. I made a feeder stick with chopsticks :D and put an alligator clip on the end of it. It worked great the eel would do knots and twists to get it off. It was spectacular to see.

Yes. Alot of digging and tunnelling. He has dug a path in the crushed coral to each of his hang out spots. He has also toppled a rock with a leather coral that I had loosly placed like a dumba$$. It was pretty big so I didn't think he could move it but at feeding time he becomes a savage beast.
