Feeding with a vegie clip

I got some seaweed strips and put one in the tank tonight. I am using a veggie clip and I added the seaweed for my new regal tang. He (including all the other fish) never went near it tonight. Is this normal? Is there a cetain area it needs to be placed? I kept moving it where I saw the tang hiding. When I walked away, he would move to a new area.

You might try soaking the Nori in a garlic/tank water mix then putting it in to the tank. Garlic extract entices fish.

Thanks. I have Zoe and garlic on order. I couldn't believe nobody in town had this stuff.

I have a hard time finding it locally too.
My Angel would also ignore the veggie clip at first too, but once he realized what it was he was all over it.

Oh yeah, should I keep a piece of seaweed in at all times or just every few days? The directions said to remove any uneaten seaweed after 24 hours. It didn't say when to add more.

I only let the nori stay in there for about 3 hours on the clip. Then I move the clip to the sandbed and within 30 minutes it's covered in Nassarius Snails and hermits. I only use about 1/4 sheet (2"x 3") each feeding.
I only feed the nori every other day. The days that I dont give Nori I mix it up wth Prime Reef flake, Formula 2 pellets, mysis, cyclopeeze, and my homebrew food.

I had the same problem once before. I had to place a piece of algae near by where the tangs were hanging out and tag it down with a piece of rock. Once they start eating it, I then move the algae back onto the clip and then they eat it from there. One of my tang don't even need the clip, I just toss the algae sheet in there and he'll drag it down and eat it. Sometimes you have to try different types of algae sheets to try to get them to eat. My Naso wouldn't even touch the green algae at first and I had to get some Brown Algae to get him to eat, he ate the brown stuffs, haven't retry the green algae with him yet. :happyfish

Thanks. I was thinking of doing the rock method. I think my piece was too big at first so I cut it down to around 2x3". I just to make sure he eats enough. He's a lot faster than I thought he would be.

I had the same problem with feeding my yellow tang seaweed strips on a clip. I think the first time I put it in the poor thing was scared. Then I just kept putting it in the same place and his curiousity allowed him to start picking at it and now everything is fine.

My tang didnt notice it for like 3 days. Keep putting it in the same spot. Now my tang knows instantly when there is seaweed for him in the tank.

I USE 4 CLIPS WITH SEAWEED. MY FISH DEVOUR IT IN ABOUT 5 MINUTES. MY NASO AND SAILFIN PULL AT IT SO HARD THEY KEPT PULLING THE CLIPS OFF. NOW I HAVE THE CLIPS TIED TO THE CENTER SUPPORT ON MY TANK. NOW IF THEY PULL IT OFF I CAN RETRIEVE IT WITHOUT REACHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM. wE FOUND A GUY ON LINE THAT MAKES HIS OWN SHEETS THEY ARE 5X7. REAL NICE STUFF. WE GET 100 SHEETS FOR $10.00

The sheets can also be picked up from a local Japanese grocery. I usually buy a pack of 50 for 3.25.
Last me FOREVER, though, so I am wasting quite a bit in lieu of freshness. I buy a pack every two weeks, b/c once they're open they seem to get super dry rather fast.
when I first put the clip on to my glass the Angel will haul butt to it, and tear the clip off. After the first nibble he's calm about it though. I just hold the clip for the initial bite.

i WAS VERY SURPRISED WHEN I EVEN SAW MY SCOOTER BLENNY GOING AFTER THE SEAWEED. I FEED SEAWEED TWICE A DAY. IT'S SO FUNNY TO WATCH THEM. IT JUST LIKE KIDS IN CANDY STORE, OR ME IN HOMEDEPOT :happyfish

Thanks for the replies. I added garlic to it tonight and the damsel was the first to eat it. An hour later and the tang was tearing it up.....cool :joy:
