Few little Questions (help)

Well I may be treating my Puffer for ich in the next few days. I have read over all the stickys by Beth on treating ich. I just have a few little simple questions to still be answered. To kickstart and cycle my QT tank I will put some Live Rock in, and dirty filter media in the hang on filter. When I get all the levels down to normal my question is this, will the bacteria still remain once lowered to hypo? I would hope so but if not why even bother doing a cycle on the QT tank, I would imagine I would just have to do daily water changes to keep the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate down.
Second question is this, I know it says inverts are fine and cant carry the parasite but I just wanted to double check. I have a brittle starfish in my display along with snails/hermit crabs. Will it be safe to keep these in the display for 4 to 6 weeks while my puffer is in the QT tank? He is the only fish I have in the 125.
Thanks,
Peter

Yes to both of your questions. The bacteria lives in hypo and your star will not host ich. He will be fine. If the ich outbreak was in you display, leave it fishless for 6 weeks. Also, rememer to remove the rock from the QT before you begin treatment. You are going to do hyposalinity? Do you have a refractometer?

Refractometer has been ordered off this site. No worries, I know not to use a crappy plastic hydrometer!
Anything else you think I would want to know feel free to post.
Thanks

If you have read how to do it then you should be pretty well prepared. If you run into any bumps along the way, let us know, we will be happy to walk you through it
